Axolotls are also sadly Critically Endangered (According to the IUCN Red List, as of 2020); this means that they are only one step or small bad time above 'extinct in the wild'.
Though there are some raised in captivity; they are only found in the wild in 3 areas in the southern Mexico City waterways.
Though many who live right next to these areas have never seen a wild Axolotl; there are education programs and active monitoring occurring.
